Choose the Office That Holds the Record
Indiana arrests and county bookings are handled locally, so a county sheriff or jail is usually the custodian for a booking record or photograph. Use the Indiana County Directory to find the guide for the county where the arrest occurred. For a state-prison record, contact the Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) through its Offender Records page.
- For a county arrest or jail booking, open that county's entry in the directory; roster availability and records contacts vary.
- For state-prison custody or an IDOC-held record, use the IDOC offender guide or IDOC's official records unit. Offender-specific requests go to coaoffenderrecordrequest@idoc.in.gov; put the person's name or DOC number in the subject. A full offender-record request requires Authorization of Release Form SF 46729. IDOC lists mail for Offender Records Request at 302 W. Washington Street, Room E-334, Indianapolis, IN 46204.
- For an Indiana court case or disposition, search the public MyCase portal; it is not a live jail roster.
- For someone in federal custody, use the BOP locator, which does not publish booking photos, or the separate ICE detainee locator.
- For a warrant or active case question, contact the court or law-enforcement agency responsible for the matter. Names and third-party indexes alone cannot confirm warrant status.
