Indiana Notable Mugshot Cases
Why track famous Indiana busted mugshot cases at all? Because they reveal where different records actually live. A county booking entry, a state archive file, an appellate opinion, and a federal sentencing release are four different animals. Each case below has a documented outcome. Dillinger's ended with his death. Camm's ended in acquittal. The rest carry convictions, pleas, or sentences confirmed by court or government reporting. Official records always lead; news reports only help you find the docket, and the docket controls the exact order and any appeal. Anyone wanting to trace one of these cases starts with the Indiana MyCase search portal, which opens on a blank case-search form rather than anyone's booking photo.
MyCase helps check case entries and dispositions; it is not a county booking-photo archive.
Indiana Arrest Case Outcomes
The table pairs every case with its stated outcome. It also names the office or record system that can back up any follow-up questions. Each entry points to where the answer lives, so the original arrest record stays easy to trace.
| Case and year | Agency or event | Outcome | Record path |
|---|---|---|---|
| John Dillinger, 1934 | Lake County custody; Indiana State Police and other agencies in the escape investigation | Escaped Crown Point jail; later killed by federal agents in Chicago | IARA correctional holdings, historical records, and Dillinger Collection |
| David Camm, 2000 arrest | Indiana State Police and local law enforcement in Floyd County | Earlier convictions did not stand; acquitted after a third trial in 2013 | Floyd County custodian, MyCase, and appellate opinions |
| Richard Allen, 2022 arrest | Carroll County authorities and Indiana State Police | Jury guilty verdict in 2024; 130-year sentence reported in December 2024 | Carroll County booking custodian and MyCase |
| Gary Ferrell II, 2021 arrest | Frankfort-area law enforcement | Guilty plea to two murder counts; 110-year sentence reported in 2023 | Clinton County Sheriff and MyCase |
| John Buncich, 2016 federal case | Federal corruption prosecution | Convictions affirmed; resentenced in 2020 to 151 months plus other terms | Federal docket and U.S. Attorney release |
| Jeremiah Farmer, 2019 federal trial | Federal and local investigation | Federal jury convicted him of racketeering and drug-conspiracy counts | Federal docket and U.S. Attorney release |
Start with whoever booked the person. The sheriff or jail created the booking image. That office is its custodian. For the final court result, the case docket serves better. Note: Booking photos and case files have separate custodians, so a correct court result does not guarantee an image sits online.
John Dillinger: Indiana Records
John Dillinger sat in the Crown Point jail under Lake County custody. After his March 1934 escape, the Indiana State Police and other agencies joined the chase. IARA's account says he allegedly carved a wooden pistol for the March 3 breakout. The escape triggered a gubernatorial investigation and a national manhunt. The Indiana State Police history page covers the Crown Point chapter. So does the Indiana Historical Bureau marker. The ending is famous. Federal agents killed Dillinger in Chicago on July 22, 1934, per IARA.
The record path here is archival. It is not a modern jail lookup. IARA holds a limited Indiana State Prison record and reformatory material. Governor McNutt correspondence with clippings is there too. The Dillinger Collection contains an image tied to his transfer. The Dillinger Collection description notes that its identification cards show front and profile views. Reverse-side details include name, age, crime, sentence, and institutional history. One warning matters. IARA calls prison and reformatory images state property that cannot be posted without permission. Request the archival reference. Ask about reproduction rights instead of copying a picture off a history page.
David Camm: Indiana Acquittal Record
The September 2000 deaths of Kimberly, Brad, and Jill Camm in Georgetown, Floyd County, drew Indiana State Police and local investigators. An arrest warrant came quickly. David Camm, a former state trooper, went through multiple trials. Convicted twice, he was acquitted after the third.
That final outcome deserves precision. The first conviction was reversed. The later prosecution ended in acquittal at the 2013 third trial. No booking image from 2000 can stand in for that result. The federal case record and the Indiana Supreme Court opinion document the procedural history. Want the booking record? Ask Floyd County or the investigating agency. MyCase and the state appellate system carry the case entries and opinions, and the two files must be checked separately.
Richard Allen: Indiana Court File
Abigail Williams and Liberty German died in February 2017 near Delphi. Carroll County authorities worked the case with Indiana State Police. Years passed without an arrest. Then, in October 2022, Richard Allen was taken into custody and charged. The Indiana Supreme Court's opinion in State ex rel. Richard Allen covers that prosecution and the fights over counsel that followed.
The verdict came in November 2024. A jury found Allen guilty. The Associated Press reported the December 2024 sentence of 130 years. It was built from 65 years on each murder count running consecutively. Appeals can move the picture. MyCase is the place to watch for the current appellate posture. A later docket entry may change what stands today.
Where do the other pieces live? The booking record sits with Carroll County's custodian and its jail lookup. Any official booking photo lives there too. The court file belongs to the Carroll County case itself. For any recent Indiana arrest, the same order works. Start at the sheriff or jail. Then open MyCase to read the charge and the outcome on separate tracks.
Note: Check MyCase for Allen's current appeal status, since the sentencing report does not replace later docket entries.
Gary Ferrell: Indiana Plea Record
Gary Ferrell II was arrested by Frankfort-area law enforcement after the August 18, 2021 killings of Promise Mays and Pamela Sledd near an automotive seating plant. An arrest report only opens the story. The plea and sentence close it.
The Associated Press reported that Ferrell pleaded guilty to two murder counts and received 110 years at a September 2023 sentencing. The Clinton County docket controls the exact terms. Turn to MyCase for a current status rather than leaning on the arrest account. The Clinton County Sheriff or jail holds the booking record and any booking photo. Court documents follow a separate path entirely.
John Buncich: Indiana Federal Record
John Buncich, a former Lake County sheriff, faced a federal public-corruption prosecution. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Indiana reports convictions on two wire-fraud counts plus one bribery count. The Seventh Circuit upheld them.
Sentence came later. The Justice Department resentencing release states Buncich was resentenced in 2020 to 151 months in prison, a year of supervised release, restitution, and a fine. That outcome is federal. It never touched a Lake County criminal docket. The DOJ release reports the sentence in plain text, while any county booking record or photograph stays with the Lake County custodian.
The federal record proves the outcome. A photo, if wanted, must come from the agency that holds it.
Jeremiah Farmer: Indiana Federal Verdict
Jeremiah Farmer's 2019 case opened a second federal path in Indiana. ATF and FBI agents joined the investigation. Officers from Gary, Hammond, East Chicago, and Lake County did too. Many hands, one controlling court record. The multi-agency history does not shift where the outcome lives.
A federal jury convicted Farmer of racketeering and drug-conspiracy counts. The Northern District of Indiana Justice Department release states that verdict. It also says the racketeering conspiracy included the 1999 murders. The victims were Marion Lowry and Harvey Siegers. That release is the stated source for the conviction. The federal docket pairs with it as the record path for trial and verdict. A pretrial booking photo, if one exists, would sit with the arresting or local custodian. The official verdict release lays out the result in text.
Keep the arresting agency, the federal court, and the local jail straight. That keeps a records request on the right path.
Note: A federal conviction record and a local booking photo may rest with different agencies, so request each from its own custodian.
Indiana MyCase Record Search
Start any lookup with the record you actually want. MyCase searches public, non-confidential cases from courts on the state's Odyssey system. Older documents may not all be online. A case entry won't hand you a county booking photo. The Indiana Judicial Branch MyCase help page spells out what the system covers. It also notes where online access stops.
Read the help page first. It shows which courts and documents are covered before a blank result gets mistaken for a complete history.
Indiana Court Record Steps
The Judicial Branch's MyCase search tips narrow a name search. They also help you avoid reading an arrest entry as a final result.
Tie a court search to the specific county case. Then check back for later orders or appeal entries.
- For a county booking photo, contact the sheriff or jail that held the person and ask which office keeps the booking record.
- For an Indiana state criminal case, search MyCase by case number or party name, then read the docket entries and final order.
- For an appeal, check the Indiana appellate record and the trial-court docket for later rulings.
- For a federal prosecution such as Buncich or Farmer, use the federal docket and the relevant U.S. Attorney release.
- For older state-prison material, search Research Indiana and the IARA holdings; for older county material, ask the county custodian about retention or transfer.
A disposition is the court's outcome. Dismissal, acquittal, plea, or conviction all count. Read the court record before describing what followed an arrest.
Need the local route for a county record? The Indiana County Directory maps it. Older state-prison records work differently; the Indiana Mugshot Archives page explains how to request them. A public case release is a starting record, never a stand-in for the controlling docket.
